Christian Soto began his musical career as an
8-year-old boy soprano
singing at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
Under the direction of Paul Halley, the Cathedral Choristers maintained
a rigorous liturgical, touring, and recording schedule, performing
and recording with such artists as Judy Collins, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Peter,
Paul and Mary, Art Garfunkel, and Paul Winter.
In high school, Christian achieved a number of honors, including appointments to the Dade County Superintendent's Honor Choir, Florida All-State Choir, and Florida All-State Sight-Reading Choir. In 1992 and 1993, he earned Superior ratings at the Florida Vocal Association State Solo Vocal Competition.
In 1996, Christian was a winner of the first annual Florida International University Concerto Competition, earning the right to perform with the FIU Symphony
Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Carlos Piantini. Christian has been a soloist with several FIU ensembles, including the FIU Concert Choir, Miami Master Chorale, the University Men's Chorus, and the FIU Opera Workshop.
Roles and scenes performed with the FIU Opera Workshop include Nicely-Nicely Johnson in
Guys and Dolls, Mister Wilderkunstein in Introductions and
Goodbyes, Sam in The Long Christmas Dinner, Strephon in Iolanthe, Des Grieux in
Manon, Wilhelm in Mignon, Albert in Albert Herring, Jaquino in
Fidelio, Idomeneo in Idomeneo, Ferrando in Cosi fan
tutte, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Elvino in La Sonnambula, Don Ottavio in
Don Giovanni, Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, and Paolino in
The Secret Marriage. He has also appeared in the role of Alfredo in scenes from
La Traviata with the Hispanic-American Lyric Theatre.
In 1997, Christian earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida International University in Miami, FL. He returned to FIU to complete his Master of Music degree in 2002.
Christian has served as a guest soloist and section leader with a number of South Florida choirs, including St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Miami Beach Community Church, Kendall Community Church of God, the Miami-Dade Community College Choir,
the Miami-Dade Community College Caravan Singers, St. Philip's Episcopal Church,
The Miami Oratorio Society, The Cathedral of St. Mary, Key Biscayne Community
Church and St. Andrew's
Episcopal Church.
In September 2002, Christian joined the faculty of Barry University and New World School of the Arts. In 2003, he also began teaching at Miami-Dade
College, Kendall Campus. He is currently Tenor Soloist and Section Leader at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Recent performances include guest appearances with The Klezmer Company
in Boca Raton, FL, including sold-out performances at the Eissey Theater
in West Palm Beach and the Florida Atlantic University Auditorium.
Christian is a proud member of the Florida Grand Opera chorus, and will
be appearing in 3 operas during the 2005-2006 season. (La fille du
regiment, Rigoletto, and Carmen).
Christian is currently a student of Dr. Nobleza G. Pilar.
Previous voice teachers include Cesar-Antonio Suarez, Geraldine Suarez-Novack,
Robert Grenier, and Robert Dundas. |
